Explore materials: Dress 1

During the process of draping the bottom half of the dress, i played around the some chiffon to see if it fitted in with other fabric whilst draping. i didnt feel it went very well so i didnt end up using it.

Dress 1
How well did it work as a garment?
- I feel it worked quite well i think it looked quite high street and basic. it was quite fitted at the top then kind of draped down as the front and back.
Is is fashion? if so why? if not why not?
- Yes and no, i think it is fashion as it is wearable and again quite high street. its not outrageous, it could be sold in an average store. on the other hand the thing that wouldnt make it fashion is the fact the fabric was extremely old fashioned!
What opening did you use?
- I did not use an opening for this dress as it slipped over the head and fitted perfectly. i wanted to put an opening onto the top but when my idea of draping the rest of the fabric around the bottom i then realised i should of put the zip in first before sewing it together.
What were the problems?
- Well firstly the fabric itself was horrible to use, it frayed, it moved when cutting, the pattern on the fabric was horrible when trying to draw on the pattern it just got in the way. when sewing on the machine it was awfuly slippery.
What could you improve next time?
- Maybe next time i could do a couple of samples of the fabric on the sewing machine to get used to working with the fabric, and maybe leave myself more time to make the dress so get the fabric earlier.
