Explore materials: Dress 2

i started off with draping the fabric in many different ways to see how it worked, i wasnt sure whether i wanted a longer dress or short or mixed.
i loved how the creases created like a sort of pattern as it was chiffon and though it would look lovely on a body.

Finially i found a way i like it which was gathering up the fabric at the sides and the dress being over one shoulder.
i played around and turned it different ways to see what it would look like but didnt really like them so kept it the way i had made it.

when finishing of the garment i found the chiffon was hard to work with as it kept slipping and wouldnt hold straight and as i cut it you caught one thread it was pull and fray and twist so i used this to my advantage and frayed and twisted the edges of the sleeve.

How well did it work as a garment?
I felt it worked well i dont think it was the best thing i had made but i got told by my model it was very comfortable and felt good.
Is it fashion? If so why?, if not why not?
I think it couold be fashion more of a going out in the evening sort of fashion. it was wearable so i would say it is fashion.
What opening did you use?
For this garment i actually didnt use any opening because of the fact that it just slipped over the head and fell into place, i think it was too do it again and to improve it i would add some sort of invisible zip down the sleevless side to make it a bit easier to get into and also so it would identify which way the garment was to be worn.
What were the problems?
Well i chose the chiffon this week for my group and i wish i had chosen something different. the fabric itselfs once it is a finished grament looks lovely but when making the garment it is a nightmare! everytime i went to pin it it either slipped out or just didnt hold so i had to use double the amount fo pins. i did in the beggining try to pattern cut a bidice to drape from but everytime i cut the fabirc it would fray or get caught or slip so i cut the wrong part. this is why i chose to just drape the whole thing and it did work out alot easier!
What could you do to improve next time?
Next time i think i would take a sample of the fabric before buying it and test cutting and sewing it on a machine to how it holds then make the decision in buying it. Also as i said before i would add an opening if i was to make this dress again like an invisible zip or maybe the opposite and put a statment zip in to make it a focal point.
