Explore materials: Trousers 2

I started off knowing what i wanted to do with the trousers, my aim was the make really baggy shorts that looked like a skirt. but when i was buying my fabric i didnt think this through and didnt buy enough so i changed my idea to flarey shorts. i strated by making my pattern from the basic trouser bloack pattern.

once i had cut it out on denim i pinned the pieces together to see what shape i had created. i then pinned in the zip, i did attempt an invisible zip but you could still see it but i didnt mind as i like the colour of the zip and felt it went well.

my group originally picked to use leatherette which im not a big fan of anyway, so i thought i could use as little as possible so i would hem my shorts in it but when i went to sew it on my machine it kept slipping and getting stuck and looked so messy so i gave up with that idea.

here are my examples of why it just didnt work out i tryed sewing a pocket on the machine, didnt work and looked a mess, so i just attempted to sew a straight like through a piece and still looked horrible.

so i decided to just hem it in a basic way.
once i had finished them i thought i should use some of the leather i cut out out a small sqaure and hand stitched it on to the front of my shorts to make a small pocket and left it at that.

 Trouser 2
How well did it work as a garment?
i felt it worked well it was a basic pair of denim shorts. The problem i got told was that they were a but tight around the waist so i think i may have got measurements wrong but other than that i felt they worked well.
Is it fashion? if so why? if not why not?
I think it would count as fashion just basic fashion.
What opening did you use?
i used an invisible zip for this garment but it didnt seem to be invisible but i do feel i am improving on putting zips into garements. i wasnt too dissapointed about the fact that the zip was showing i just felt it was to my advantage and glad i chose a coloured zip so it looked like it should be on show.
What were the problems?
well my biggest problem was the fact that my group material was leatherette and i really dont like it at all, so i chose to buy some denim and was going to use the least bit of leather as i could, but when i went to hem the shorts in the leather my machine kept  ongetting stuck when sewing through it, or it would jump and go at an angle even though i was holding the fabric, or it would stretch and go at an angle. i just really did not get on with it.
What could you do to improve next time?
Next time if i was going to use leatherette again i would get myself a teflon foot for my machine to help sew with the fabric a bit easier, i could also do a few tester runs or the fabric before going straight in and using it. Also when thinking of an idea buy more fabric than what you think you might need as you will probably need it its better to have to much than too little.
