Explore materials: Trousers 3

When i saw the fabric i new i wanted to do some kind of shorts, i used my block of which i used for my denim garment previously and then altered it so it was shorter and more wide fitting and last time they were quite tight. i then cut my pattern out and strated to sew it together.
when pinning the fabric together i could tell i would need more seam allowance as when i pinning it would fray and the pin would come out so i couldnt sew to close to the edge as the stitch would fall out but once i had hemmed the bottom of the shorts it was fine and it didnt seem to fray as much.

i then added the opening using a zip i thought the green zip went quite well with the fabric so i started to pin the zip in and sew it on the machine suing the zip foot. once i had done the zip i could then sew the remaining side but as is sewed it i realised the bottom didnt match up and one side was longer than the other as you can see in the photos above. to solve this problem i just rehemed it but higher so it matched as i didnt want to cut anything and mess it up.

This is what i ended up with but i thought they looked a bit plain to i bought a couple of gold buttons as shown on the front of the garment to give it a something extra, they were just hand stitched on. I think this is the best zip i have put in so far and have improved since week one.

Trousers 3
How well did it work as a garment?
I feel they worked quite well i made them to fit me this week and on the looked a bit like a skirt and nice with a plain black top so i think they are one of the best garments i have made over the weeks.
Is it fashion? if so why? if not why not?
i would say it is fashion maybe a vintage style of fashion, the fabric kind of reminded me of old fashioned farmers but vintage and old trends always come back around so feel this fitted in perfectly.
What opening did you use?
I used a zip for the opening, i feel i have really improved in my ability to put a zip into a garment i am alot neater and more controlled with the zip foot now and this was a success i feel for this garment. i chose a green zip for the shorts as i felt the colour scheme went well.
Was there any problems?
i would say the only problem i had was that the fabric frayed quite a bit so i had to add more seam allowance so i could sew further into the garment becayse if i didnt the fabric would fray and the sitches would fall out but i found the way around this.
What could you do to improve next time?
Next time i think i would make a longer pair of trousers as i have only really made one of them. or i would think of another shape instead of the basuc trouser or short shape and add something to make them stand out a bit more maybe not make them so high street. i would also test a pience of the fabric i have chosen on the nachine to see what problems i may have before starting the final garment.
